About Bapu Bazaar

Bapu Bazaar is one of Jaipur's most popular and colourful shopping streets, running between the Sanganeri Gate and the New Gate in the old city. Lined with shops beneath the characteristic pink arcades, it is the go-to market for authentic Rajasthani textiles and handicrafts at reasonable prices.

What to shop for

The bazaar is famous for its textiles and fabrics — especially Sanganeri and Bagru block prints — as well as the beloved Jaipuri razai (lightweight quilts), embroidered and mirror-worked garments, and traditional mojari and jutti footwear. You will also find leather bags and camel-leather goods, handicrafts, trinkets and Jaipur's traditional perfumes (itra).

Largely pedestrian-friendly, Bapu Bazaar is easy and enjoyable to browse on foot, with the pink walls of the old city rising on either side. It is a wonderful place to soak up the atmosphere of Jaipur's shopping culture.

Visiting tips

Come in the late afternoon or evening when the market is liveliest and lit up. Bargaining is normal here, so negotiate politely for the best price. The parallel Nehru Bazaar, famous for footwear, is right alongside.
