About Chandpole Bazaar

Chandpole Bazaar is a bustling traditional market in the western part of Jaipur's old walled city, running inward from the Chandpole Gate ("moon gate"). A working market patronised largely by locals, it offers an authentic taste of everyday old-city commerce.

What to shop for

The bazaar is particularly known for its marble statues and stone carvings — Jaipur is a major centre for marble sculpture, and the shops here display finely carved idols and figurines. Alongside these you will find handicrafts, utensils, brass and metalware, textiles and a range of household goods, sold from shops beneath the familiar pink arcades.

Less geared to tourists than the jewellery and textile bazaars, Chandpole rewards the curious wanderer with a genuine slice of Jaipur life and the chance to see marble craftsmen at work.

Daytime is best, when the workshops are active. Bargaining is expected. The market lies at the western end of the old city and connects easily to the other walled-city bazaars along the main streets.
